With the proclamation of the Year of Languages 2005 by the governor, Kansas officially joined the nationwide celebration organized and promoted by ACTFL. Four members of the KSWLA Executive Council were honored to join the governor for the proclamation. They are, left to right, Sharon Lopez, Wichita, Margaret Yarnevich, Salina, Phyllis Farrar, Lawrence, and Erin Joyce, Baldwin City.

National observances of this celebratory year include Senate resolution 28, passed February 17, and House resolution 122, passed March 8. Full texts of these bills, along with a plethora of ideas for a year of language advocacy are available at yearoflanguages.org.
